2004 MN4 Near-Earth Asteroid

2004 MN4 Near-Earth Asteroid
What is it?

2004 MN4 is a 390 meter asteroid that may intersect Earth oribit on Friday the 13th of April, 2029. In recent weeks this asteroid has set multiple records for the highest potential threat warning of any recorded near-earth object.

Quick Facts:

* 2004 MN4 orbits the sun once every 324 days
* The asteroid is thought to be about 390m wide, estimated from its brightness
* If an impact occurs, 2004 MN4 will yield approx. 1,600 megatons of energy
* With further observation, The odds of impact could eventually be eliminated
* There have been very few sightings of Asteroid 2004 MN4

Impact Assessment:
(from Wikipedia's 2004 MN4 page)

NASA estimates the energy that 2004 MN 4 would release if it impacted Earth as the equivalent of 1400 megatons of TNT . In contrast, the largest man-made nuclear explosion, Tsar Bomba , had a yield of approximately 50 megatons. The nuclear bomb Little Boy , dropped by the United States on Hiroshima, Japan , had a yield of only about 0.013 megatons. The impacts which created the Barringer Meteor Crater or caused the Tunguska event are estimated to be in the 10-20 megaton range. The 1883 eruption of Krakatoa was the equivalent of roughly 200 megatons.

The exact effects of any impact would vary based on the asteroid's composition, and the location and angle of impact. Any impact would be extremely detrimental to an area of thousands of square kilometers, but would be unlikely to have long-lasting global effects.
